What to Expect in Your First CrossFit Class: A Walkthrough of Gym Classes from Check-In to Cooldown
If you are a busy adult thinking about trying a CrossFit class, the unknowns are usually what hold people back. What happens when you walk in? What do you wear? Will you be able to keep up? This is a walkthrough of a first class in the order it happens at Progressive Fitness, so nothing catches you off guard. Most gym classes follow a pattern, and ours is simple.
Before You Walk In: What to Bring and Wear
Keep it simple. Wear comfortable flat shoes, bring an open mind, and listen to your body while you move. You will also meet a stranger or two, which is part of how a class works.
Check-In at Progressive Fitness in Zachary
Before your first class, download our Stream Fit app. That is how you sign the waiver. Our classes happen at Progressive Fitness in Zachary.
The Warm-Up: Easing In Before the Hard Part
Your coach starts by leading everyone through a workout brief. After that, the coach guides you through a progressive warm-up, so you ease in before the harder work starts.
How a Coach Explains the Workout and Movements
We display the workout and the workout options on two large TV screens, so you can see what is coming and what your choices are. The coach also explains the intent of the workout and the "why" behind the WOD. You are not left guessing what the day is supposed to feel like.
The Main Workout: What Happens in Most CrossFit Gym Classes
When the coach counts down 3-2-1 Go, we all start the workout together. Workouts take between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the day.
What If You Can't Keep Up? How Scaling Works
Your coach will work with you individually and build a plan of attack so you can get through the workout safely. The goal is that you come back with a smile.
Cooldown and Questions After Class
After the workout, we all gather around the coach and talk about how it felt. Everyone shares their experience, then we hi five and fist bump each other.
How to Plan Your First Class Around a Busy Schedule
We offer five classes a day to choose from, which gives you options when your schedule is tight.
If you want to try one, download the Stream Fit app, sign the waiver, and pick a class time that fits your day. Questions beforehand are welcome too.
