It’s no secret that after my fiancé passed away in March 2011 I gained a lot of weight. My dad and I have always been the “biggest” in the family. We both worked out at traditional gyms, he even had a trainer, but in January 2015 he started CrossFit at 67 years old. He was on me, “come on G let’s lose some of this weight.” My first thoughts were, “I’m not doing CrossFit. Those people are crazy out there flipping tires & whatnot!” Long story short, Dad was becoming a great athlete in CrossFit. However, at his age, his doctor wanted him to have a heart check up…which began MY CrossFit journey. I made a deal with Dad, “I’ll go to CrossFit if you go get your heart checked out. Deal?”
My first Bright Spot was my first double under! I was so shocked I did it, I stopped to celebrate! Also, box jumps have been a Bright Spot. I can now successfully jump on the 20 inch box more than 5 times! My strength in general has improved. I have a family member that is a quadriplegic and I can transfer him from his bed to his wheel chair with no other assistance. That’s a huge plus!
I am focused now on working on double unders! I can only do 2 at a time, sometimes. Also, I am working on getting better at box jumps and Olympic lifts…..and weight loss.
